The group of borrowers consists of three people. Its leader, Mrs. Pat Y., age 48, is a mother blessed with seven children, one of them is married and lives separately and others are still living in home. She currently sells baskets that she weaves them from her home. She makes and saves over 25 sets of basket and then sends it to her husband to sell them around the community. To help be responsible for family, three of her daughters are employed as garment workers. Pat Y.’s handicraft business is going well and smoothly. She requests a loan as assistant to allow her to buy her nearby neighbor’s basket in order to better satisfy her customer’s requirements. The other two borrowers are:
C. is a basket seller, who asking for a loan to buy additional baskets to sell.
Y. is applying for a loan to purchase more raw materials to continue weaving basket.

Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
