Christine N. is a 40-year-old married lady with four children, with the eldest being 18 years old and in secondary school. She also helps to take care of two orphans who are also in school.

Christine has had a butcher shop in Kisowera trading centre for five years and she is able to make 100,000UGX in profit a week. She employs a man to help her with the cutting of the meat in pieces for sale, although at times, she does the work herself.

She has a plan to buy a plot and build her own house so that she can stop renting and save that for future developments. Christine needs a loan to help buy more meat for her butcher shop so that she could make more profit. She is such a friendly and easy-to-approach lady, and this keeps her going.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
