A loan helped to buy thirty tons of manure, twelve bags of fertilizer and 150 m of racole (watering system).

Mamadou's story

Mamadou is a forty-five-year-old married man and the father of seven children, the oldest of whom is seventeen years old and the youngest two years old. Four of his children go to primary school.
He is a banana producer and is the member of a GIE [Economic Interest Group], whose aim is to promote mutual support between the banana producers of the area, to facilitate commercialization and to give joint and several guaranty. All the members are guaranteed by the President of the GIE.
Mamadou grows his bananas on an area of 3 plots, which equals 31,100 m². On those three plots, he has an annual production of 21 tons.
With his experience, he is able to increase his production, but he has constraints related to the high cost of good quality farm inputs and a lack of financial support to bear the family's expenses.
With the loan granted, Mamadou is planning to buy twelve bags of good quality fertilizer, thirty tons of manure and 150 m of racole (watering system). All the purchases will be equally divided within the three plots of bananas, which will enable him to increase his output and the quality of his production.
With the earnings, Mamadou will be able to keep his children in school. Moreover, he will be able to purchase some cattle in order to diversify his business, so as to increase his income and be able to strengthen his business and save money for his children's higher education.
