A loan of $800 helped glass exihibitor window to display food.

Milena's story

Milena V. V. is 52 years old and is married with six children. Milena has two businesses, a vegetarian restaurant and a stand in the Bellavista market, a massive, chaotic street marketplace located near the center of the city of Pucallpa. Milena sells spices and condiments (chili sauces, etc.) from her stand, which is named “Nutrisoya.” Milena works together with her husband, who sells condiments wholesale, in both of her business ventures.

Milena has been working with Kiva partner Manuela Ramos for three years and is a member of the communal bank “Las Triunfadoras” (The Winners). She invested her very first loan of 300 soles (about $100) in purchasing condiments for her stand. With this loan of 2300 soles Milena will buy a glass exhibitor window to display some of the foods she offers at her restaurant.

Milena has enjoyed working with Manuela Ramos. In particular, she feels that she learns a lot about business from the educational sessions given by Manuela Ramos loan officers at the monthly meetings of her communal bank. Milena’s goal is to add a soda fountain to her vegetarian restaurant.
