A loan of $12,025 helps to purchase silos to store paddy rice.

Emmanuel's story

Emmanuel spent his career as a business man. When he retired, he decided to go back to his family land and farm. He thought it would be a nice way to spend his time, breathing fresh air and being out in nature.

A few weeks into his retirement, Emmanuel got bored and his business instincts kicked in. With 12 hectares of marshland, Emmanuel knew that he had a good business opportunity to grow paddy rice, a staple food of the Rwandan diet. For the past 2 years, Emmanuel has worked his fields, cultivating his land, digging irrigation ditches, and planting rice in small plots.

He has grown his rice business slowly, and is now ready to take on larger scale farming. Emmanuel needs support to purchase two large grain silos so that he can store the paddy rice and sell it to local processors.

Emmanuel walks his fields every day. He doesn't carry a notebook, and when visiting his business and asking about the price of each rice variety and other business costs, Emmanuel rattles off numbers. It was only after spending hours with his accountant, that it became clear that Emmanuel knows the ins and outs of his business with extreme precision and care.
