Abdulsamad's story

Abdulsamad Almabari (Abdu) was originally born in Yemen. There, he taught high school math for four years. In 1997, he immigrated to the United States seeking a better life for his family. When he first arrived, Abdu found jobs at the Dollar Store, Circuit City, and as a New York City cab driver for 10 years.

In 2011, Abdu decided to move to Baltimore because he wanted less more stability in his life. He opened his first store, Rossiter Corner Store, soon after arriving to Baltimore. The Corner Store was successful enough to allow him to open up another store, Govan’s Deli, in 2017.

This loan is special because:

It supports an entrepreneur who wants to create deeper bonds with people in his community through his business.
