A loan helped to purchase improved farm inputs that will increase his farm yield.

Isiya's story

Isiya, who resides in Danbarau village, is a Babban Gona maize farmer who manages a 1-hectare maize farm, through which he supports his family. Despite working for 8 hours on his farm each day, he was only able to eat 2 meals a day. However, this changed when he became a Babban Gona member.

Now, because of this loan, he will be provided with higher-yielding seeds that are locally adapted and are widely accepted in his local community. He will also have the recommended pesticides and fertilizers based on the results of his field assessment.

These inputs will enable him to optimize his yield, where he can attain yields of up to 3.8 metric tonnes per hectare, 2 times the national average in Nigeria. This will not only increase his income earnings 2.8 times the national average but also ensures that Isiya and his family never go hungry again.

Reflecting on his greatest memory as a Babban Gona farmer, a smile lights up Isiya’s face as he remembers sending his children to better schools. Isiya is confident that with Babban Gona, his future is secured and that he will have many more great memories and amazing accomplishments.
