A loan helped to cover the costs of weeding his coffee plantation and pay labourers at harvest time.

Gustavo's story

Gustavo is a 57-year-old farmer. He lives in the village of Buenos Aires, Huarango district, in the province of San Ignacio, Peru. Gustavo is organising a cooperative where he sells his fair-trade, organic coffee and this loan will help him with the work maintaining his coffee crops, such as weeding and paying labourers during the first harvest of the season.

Gustavo has five hectares of coffee which he has been renovating for more than three years as a strategy to increase his production and introduce new varieties into his plot. Gustavo makes an additional income rearing cattle for milk and meat production. This enables him to cover some of his family's living costs.

Gustavo, like every motivated farmer, has dreams; among his plans is to build a house in the city so that his children have the chance to study and develop, thereby improving their quality of life. He thanks Norandino for the trust given with this first loan.
