Alicia's story

I was raised by a single mother with limited resources, and poured myself into my school work as a child. I moved a lot and experienced a wide range of public schools with varying quality. I felt first hand the importance of good schools, and dedicated my career to improving school experiences for my students. Now that I have two beautiful boys of my own, I am even more dedicated to improving education. However, I believe that public education has taken a wrong turn in its emphasis on testing and accountability. My goal is to create a school that is run by the parents whose children go there. Not only does this lower the cost of running the school, it creates a school that is perfectly tailored to it's community.

This loan is special because:

It supports a woman entrepreneur who wants to build a community-centered educational system for children.
