A loan of $850 helped to obtain a kisok for his start-up business as a Zoona mobile money transfer agent so that he can provide financial services to his community.

Charles's story

Charles, age 54, has been through a life of hardship but always perseveres. Charles grew up without his father. He became a widower in his early years of marriage. Charles still has one child in school and is working hard to provide an education.

Charles is a farmer and is now venturing into mobile transactions. With the extra income he will be able to meet his increasing financial responsibilities. Charles appeals to Kiva lenders for assistance. With his first loan he will obtain a kiosk and the needed funds to start his business. Charles is excited, as his business will give people the opportunity to do cash transactions in a fast, easy, and secure environment, without having to go longer distances, and thereby incurring further expense.

Charles still has more plans for his life. He would like to venture into property development, for which he sees great potential within Malawi. He works hard to ensure he can leave his children with enough capital and assets to improve their lives and help others advance in their lives. With the support of Kiva lenders Charles can reach his dreams and be able to enjoy retirement.
