Armando Rodrigo C. is 33 years old and was born in Chokwe in the Gaza province. He is married and has 4 children—the two oldest are in school and the youngest two are not. They live with Armando’s parents. He is starting his fourth year in a Sports Management program in the University’s education department. Beyond caring for his children and wife he also takes care of his parents. He was born in Chokwe but moved to Maputo when he was still a baby. He still lives in the same house with his parents, wife and children. He graduated from IMAP (Institute for Primary Teachers ) in 2000 and he is currently a teacher at MINED (Ministry of Education and Culture) and has been since 2001. He earns a monthly salary of 6.000,00MT and also earns income from two pool tables that he owns. With that money, he supports his family and is saving to build a home. He learned about Hluvuku-Adsema through a colleague who is also a Hluvuku client. This is his 2nd loan—his first loan was for 25.000,00MT which he used to buy construction materials and was repaid without problems. He also had a loan with Tchuma. With this loan of 20.000,00MT he would like to buy bricks, coarse sand, cement, roof tiles, and other materials. His main challenge is finishing his home and his degree. He pledges to pay this loan without any problems in order to qualify for more loans in the future.

About Housing Loans
Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
