A loan of $900 helped a member to purchase a solar light and increase maize cultivation.

Anna's Group's story

Pictured above is Anna, often described as an extremely reliable person. She is 45 years old and, as a group leader, she is representing her group of 12 farmers in Kimilili District, Kenya.

Anna is returning this season to work with One Acre Fund again, as this means that she is able to have access to the best seed prices, which is why she decided to join in the first place. Anna says that she is happy to have made that decision because, since she first joined in 2011, she has been able to consistently feed her family, which has improved her day-to-day life significantly. Anna will use the profits from this season to send her children to school and buy a cow.

The group will use this loan to purchase seven solar lights, as well as seeds and fertilizer to plant a total of 7.5 acres.

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers to purchase seeds and solar lanterns.
