A loan of $400 helped to buy cereals.

Monica's story

Monica is a humble young lady who has a winner's mindset. She lives in the Nyamira area of Kenya. She has seven children, whom she loves very much and whom she supports in everything. Life for this woman hasn’t been easy, especially when she failed in securing employment. It was challenging but she overcame it, and she started practicing mixed farming.

For the past 10 years, Monica has been involved in mixed farming, and because of the immense farming knowledge she has, farmers from her village now seek technical advice from her on the best dairy farming techniques. Monica is the breadwinner of her family, and this really pushes her to work hard so that her children will have a bright future and her parents will have a comfortable life.

Although she makes profits from dairy farming, she is not comfortable and has always wanted to increase her income by selling cereals. That is why she is seeking this loan to buy cereals. Kenya's Nyamira area, one of the country's most populated regions, has a high demand for cereals.

Accessing funds has been a challenge for Monica, but she now feels relieved because Juhudi Kilimo is partnering with Kiva lenders to help hardworking women farmers like her turn their farming dreams into a reality through training and loan financing.

Monica believes that this loan will be a great help and that she will be able to satisfy the demand for cereals.

Monica has successfully repaid her previous loan.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals and farming equipment.
