Vailaasia's story

Vailaasia M., age 31, lives in the town of Matautu Lefaga Tai. She is married and has four school-aged children. To make a living, Vailaasia plants and harvests taro for sale. Vailaasia has been engaged in this business for over four years and earns approximately 600 WST a month.

In 2008, Vailaasia joined SPBD to gain access to financial services. Her goal was to help improve her living situation and to increase her ability to engage in business activities. Vailaasia has successfully repaid a previous loan of 750 WST from SPBD. This previous loan was used to invest in expanding the business.

Vailaasia is now requesting a new loan of 1,500 WST, which will be used to purchase general farm supplies and equipment. The loan will be the second loan she has taken out from SPBD. Vailaasia plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to financially support immediate members of her family.
