A loan of $10,000 helps hasta Muerte Coffee build out the new shop, getting us closer to our Grand Opening!

Jose's story

Hi! I'm Jose, a visual artist, active Bay Area community member, and the newest member of the Hasta Muerte Coffee Collective. I've been living in San Francisco since 1999, as a immigrant from a small town in Oaxaca, Mexico. I believe in the importance of working collectively and supporting one another. I'm part of a Latinx printmaking collective, and am usually busy putting on art shows, screen printing workshops and community events in collaboration with different artist and collectives from Mexico and other countries.

Sharing so much direction and vision with the Hasta Muerte Coffee project, it just made sense to join the collective and work together. Months later and squarely part of the team, I am helping secure the loan to make it happen. We are a mix of social justice minded brown folks who have been active in our Bay Area communities for many years. And we are coming together to build a worker-owned coffee shop and bookstore to help hold space for our community in this time of rapid displacement.

This loan is special because:
