A loan of $2,000 helped a member to expand the salon and clothing sale businesses.

Mara Group's story

Rahma M., age 28, is single with one daughter who is three years old. She has a beauty salon that she started three years ago. She works from 10am to 7pm daily, and she is able to earn a monthly profit of about $113.

This will be Rahma’s third loan from Tujijenge Tanzania. She used the previous loans to expand her salon and started selling clothes and bed sheets, which she sells from door to door. She has paid the loans back successfully. She now hopes for a new loan to expand both businesses.

Rahma will share this loan with her loan group, Mara, which totals 15 members. These members hold each other accountable in paying back their loans. In the picture, Rahma is first on the right, back row, in a red t-shirt.
