A loan of $5,025 helped a member to buy bags of rice to resell.

Kotognontala Group's story

Mariam is the one posing her hands on the bag of price in the photo. She lives in Mali with her farmer husband and their three children (two daughters and one son) whose age ranges from 10 to 17 years. Only her son is attending school.

Mariam buys bags of rice after the harvest season in her village or nearby villages, stocks them and later resells them for the rainy season. She has been in this business for about 18 years. She sells out of her home, earns 250,000 francs per sale and buys soap to wash her children and their clothes and then to finance the school fees of her child currently in school.

She requests the loan in order to purchase several bags of rice to stock her store well, to increase her customer base and earn more revenues. With her earnings she helps her husband financially so that their family’s quality of life could improve. In the future she wishes to improve her warehouse in order to stock more bags of grains.
