Mrs. Sokvorn Chhom Village Bank Group's story

Mrs. Sokvorn C. is 27 years old and the mother of two children wH. are too young to work or study. The village bank which consists of eighteen members is located in Kampong Trea village in Kandal province. They plan to use the loan which they obtained in different purposes. Mrs. Sokvorn C. is the village bank president wH. has been selected by the members. She is a farmer wH. owns a piece of land to cultivate both rice and vegetables. In her vegetable growing she faces an obstacle because she does not have vegetable seeds for growing. Thus, she decided to ask for a loan to buy vegetable seeds to grow on the field. Her husband, Mr. Nget Thy, is a driver for a garment factory. Mrs. Srey O. did not come to take a loan but her husband was, so he is presented in the picture instead.

One member in this group loan is an end-of-term loan and the rest have monthly payment loans. They are not required to pay any principal on the loan until the very end of the loan term. End-of-term (EoT) loans are AMK’s main product because it is the most beneficial to Cambodia’s poor. It allows them to repay portions of the principal whenever they are financially able. Most clients start to make payments many months before the end of the loan term. Almost all of AMK’s clients make their payments on time. AMK has a delinquency rate of only 0.09% and AMK has a default rate of 0% on Kiva.
