A loan of $675 helped to buy 15 100-pound sacks of rice and 10 100-pound sacks of sugar.

Felicia Marleni's story

Felicia is a 37 year-old mother who lives in the El Pescador sector, San José district, located 20 minutes from the city of Chiclayo, Peru. She lives with her husband and 5 children: two girls who are 16 and 12 years old, and three sons who are 11, 4, and 1 years old. Four of her children are studying in the local state-run school.

She is the owner of a small grocery store where she sells basic daily-use items (rice, sugar, cooking oil, etc.). Through this business she helps support her family since her husband works occasionally in artisanal fishing, but the income he earns isn’t enough for the daily expenses.

She is requesting her first loan of 2000 PEN, which she plans to use to purchase rice and sugar to increase her sales and thereby continue supporting her family. Felicia is well-known and respected in her community.
