A loan of $675 helped to buy electronic equipment.

Lassana's story

Mr. Lassana D., age 28, is unmarried and has no children.  He lives at his uncle's place in a traditional extended family in the Médine district, one of the old districts of the city of Bougouni (3rd administrative region of the Republic of Mali).

Born in the Republic of Cote d'Ivoire, Lassana was compelled to interrupt his schooling after political events occurring in this country almost seven years ago.  Once back in his ancestral country, he decided to become familiarized with commerce with the help of his uncle, who owns several hardware stores.  With five years of experience, Lassana has a good command of his business and is in high demand.

In his search for supplemental financial resources, he joined the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso, with which he is now on his first individual loan.  With this loan, he intends to buy electronics for his general store that sells a bit of everything, sound equipment, hardware, lubricants, etc.  He stocks up in Bamako (capital of Mali) from wholesalers, and he sells retail, cash or credit accepted, to customers of all walks of life.

With this loan, Lassana plans on realizing a monthly profit of 75,000 francs CFA that will serve to round out his working capital.  His ambition is to expand his store.
