A loan of $1,375 helped a member to purchase three solar lights and gain access to cost efficient hybrid seeds and fertilizer for maize cultivation.

Ainea's Group's story

Ainea is 59 years old and has 8 children. He is a group leader and is representing his group formed by 15 farmers in Sirisia District, Kenya.

Ainea has been farming with One Acre Fund for years now, having joined the program for the first time in 2010. This decision was largely as a result of his desire to get the best quality fertilizer and hybrid seeds and, although he described his last harvest as very good, he believes he could have a better one this year by continuing to work alongside One Acre Fund. Ainea also decided to purchase three solar lights as part of his loan, which he is very excited about, as it will allow him to have light during the night and have somewhere to charge his phone.

Obtaining this loan means that Ainea's group will be able to receive a total of 8 solar lights, as well as farming inputs to plant a total of 12.75 acres.

In this group: Ainea, Agnes, Alex, George, Jacklyne, Florence, Joseph, Bramwel, Eunice, Christopher, Yohan, Pharize, John, Violet, Willyngtone

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers to purchase seeds and solar lanterns.
