A loan of $200 helped to buy new farm tools and equipment.

Philomena's story

Phelomena is a smallholder farmer who is very fervent about farming. She has been engaged in crops, dairy and poultry farming for not less than 15 years. Her primary sources of income are maize, milk and eggs.

She lives in Eldoret area in Kenya.

She developed the longing for farming from her parents, who were formerly maize farmers. She has done outstanding works through farming. It’s through farming that Phelomena has been able to take her children to school.

Phelomena has been using the same farm tools and equipment repeatedly for 10 years of farming. Some of her tools are worn out, and she needs a loan so that she can buy new tools and replace those that are worn out.

Phelomena is confident that her work will be made easier and her output will consequently increase. She is therefore appealing for a loan from Juhudi Kilimo, which has partnered with Kiva lenders, to lend her some money so that she can increase her profits and pay back her loan.

She is thankful to all her lenders.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals and farming equipment.
