A loan of $975 helped a member to purchase a solar light, and cost-efficient hybrid seed and fertilizer for maize cultivation.

John's Group's story

John is 42 years old and has six children. He is a group leader and is representing his group formed by 15 farmers in Teso District, Kenya.

John has been farming with One Acre Fund for years now, having joined the program for the first time in 2012. This decision was largely a result of his desire to get the best-quality fertilizer and hybrid seed. Although he described his last harvest as poor due to bad weather conditions, he believes he could have a better one this year by continuing to work alongside One Acre Fund. John also decided to purchase a solar light as part of his share of this loan. He is very excited about the solar light, as it will enable him to reduce the consumption of paraffin fuel and, therefore, to save more money.

Obtaining this loan means that John's group will receive a total of 13 solar lights, as well as farming inputs to plant a total of 5.5 acres.

In this group: John, Titus, Alfred, Stephen, Martha, Eunice, Dismas, Perpetua, Eunice, Anthony, Godfrey, Stephen, David, Linus, Agnes

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers to purchase seeds and solar lanterns.
