A loan of $300 helped to buy fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides.

Flomena's story

Wonderful Kiva lenders! Meet Flomena (pictured above with her last born child). She is a focused crop and livestock farmer. She is honest, hardworking and a caring mother. She hails from a remote village in the town of Kitale that has good climatic conditions that favor farming.

For the past three years, Flomena has been actively involved in mixed farming, a skill she inherited from her parents. Her primary sources of income are crop farming, poultry and dairy. Though she deals with many agribusiness enterprises, crop production is what she loves most. She narrates that selling crops earns her the best income compared to milk and eggs. Although Flomena enjoys crop farming, the meager income she earns is insufficient to satisfy her family. She therefore wants to buy more fertilizers and chemicals to enable her to improve on the quality and quantity of her produce so that she can sell more and reap maximum benefits.

Flomena is requesting a loan to buy high-quality fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides. She intends to produce a large quantity of produce which includes maize, bananas and vegetables. She will sell all her produce and earn profits. The increased profits will allow Flomena to provide a secure future for her children and improve her family's living conditions.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals and farming equipment.
