A loan of $350 helped basic food items for a restaurant business.

Julia Angelica's story

Julia is 29 years old, married, and has two children with whom she is pictured here. Julia lives in the city of Pucallpa and her husband works as a bricklayer. Julia has a small business selling foods typical of the region from the front porch of her house in the evenings.

Julia has been working with Kiva partner Manuela Ramos for about 1.5 years and is a member of the communal bank "Las Guerreras" (The Warriors). Julia used her first loan of 300 soles (about $100) to invest in basic food items with which to prepare her meals. She plans to use this loan of 1000 soles for the same purpose. Julia runs her business independently and hopes that this loan will help her to continue to grow, little by little.

Julia is pleased with the financial assistance she has received from Manuela Ramos. She also enjoys the educational sessions given by Manuela Ramos loan officers at the monthly meetings of her communal bank. With the assistance of her loans and the profits from her business, Julia purchased a piece of land and is constructing her home there.
