A loan of $250 helped her to buy seed and start horticulture farming.

Mary's story

Perseverance, faith, honest work and responsibility led Mary to start practicing mixed farming seven years ago. As the key breadwinner for her husband and lovely children, she did so in the hopes of giving her family a better quality of life. Her desire to get ahead is admirable because despite her age and the obstacles she has experienced, she isn’t discouraged in her efforts to achieve her objective. What she sets out to do, she achieves.

Mary farms her small plot of land in the green, lush hills of Kerugoya in the central region of Kenya. The area has favorable weather patterns, a good road network in her village, good soil and a ready market for her products. Through her farming here she has managed to take care of her family's needs and also give her children a good education.

Mary is now seeking a loan of 25,000 KES to buy seed to start horticulture farming on her farm. She will obtain the loan through Juhudi Kilimo, which is partnering with Kiva to help hardworking women like her make their farming dreams come to reality through training and loan financing.

Help this woman with her dreams and goals. Come on, make a loan and make her 2017 a wonderful one!

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals and farming equipment.
