Kya Paing – 5 (C) Village Group's story

Pictured above are six loan clients from Kya Paing – 5 (C) Village Group: Khin, New, Myint, Zin, San and Htwe.

Forty-two-year-old Htwe (third from the left in the picture) is the featured borrower of the group. She lives with her one, beloved independent daughter. Htwe has been engaged in farming for the last nine years. Her spouse supports the family by selling betel nuts. Htwe grows bananas and seasonal flowers on her small, half-acre farm.

Htwe will use this Kiva loan to buy necessary fertilizers and manure so as to boost her crop yield.

Htwe is not only a good farmer but also a good cook in the village. She uses her cooking skills to sell mohingha (a famous Myanmar traditional dish). Through this, she is able to earn more income to meet the family’s basic needs of food, clothing, shelter, and education.
