Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $600 helped to buy fertilizers and pesticides for his corn crops.

Gustavo's story

Gustavo is 71 years. He never went to school, but with a great deal of effort, he learned to read and write, since a relative took the trouble to teach him the basics. Gustavo is married and his wife is a homemaker. Their children no longer live with them.

Gustavo has been farming since he was very young. Currently he grows corn and also green chiles in a small greenhouse that he has. Generally, he works during the morning.

He needs a loan to buy fertilizers and pesticides for his corn crops. He is very enterprising and has had the support of three Kiva loans, which have improved his life. He has already paid all of them back.

Gustavo dreams of getting ahead in his work despite the circumstances, and he would like to support his grandchildren so that they can go to school.
