A loan of $1,200 helped purchase better kitchen equipment.

Shirley Anabel's story

Shirley Anabel H. C. is 18 years old and lives at home with her mother and two younger sisters. Her father passed away 3 years ago and since then it is practically her that takes care of the chicharroneria (a place where they serve plates of pork that are served fried in a large frying pan, traditional of Cochabamba). When her sisters return from school, they help out with the business.

Shirley lives in the area called "El Castillo" in Cochabamba. The chicharroneria is located in their home where they serve food every day, but in larger quantities on Saturday and Sunday. The chicharroneria is famous in the area because it has been around for a very long time and the food has a reputation for good quality.

The loan will be used for the purchase of better kitchen equipment since the current equipment is very old and almost obsolete. With better kitchen equipment, they will be able to increase the amount of pork they sell, increase their earnings, and consequently improve their quality of life. Shirley hopes to be able get another loan in the future to improve the infrastructure of the chicharroneria and be able to give better attention to her customers.
