A loan of $1,000 helped buying new and used clothing for resale.

Joshua's story

After years of working jobs that didn’t inspire him, at 25, Josh finally decided to pursue his own ideas. Josh runs a web-based used/new clothing company. In 2008, he took a big step and made his business his sole source of income. He sifts through the racks of thrift stores in his town of Lansing, Michigan, buying up all the name brands and new clothing he can get his hands on.

Currently Josh processes about 300 orders per month but he would like to increase that to four or five hundred. After learning that Kiva had opened up to US businesses, Josh applied for a loan at ACCION USA online and was approved for $1,000. He has never taken a loan from a bank, this is his first time accessing capital for his business. With his loan Josh is going to do a sweep of the thrift stores in his town, buying clothing to increase his inventory.

Talking to Josh, you learn that he is ambitious about running his own business and being successful. He has been taking business classes at the local community college and has many great new business ideas. In the near future, he would like to develop a monthly clothing subscription where clients would receive three items of clothing each month.
