A loan helped a member to pay for ACE 1 clean cookstove.

Thaba Kholo Group's story

Mokete is a 32-year-old married father with 2 children, (a family of 4). He lives in a traditional house that is not well ventilated and does not warm up well in the winter. He lives off his cattle and farming.

Mokete has requested a loan from Kiva lenders to purchase clean cook stoves. The stoves provide her and seven other people from her village who live in similar circumstances with the ability to cook in a way that does not harm them or their families. The stoves also don't require a lot of wood or expensive electricity, paraffin, and gas.

This stove can be started with the use of very little, readily available biomass, like dry twigs or dry cow dung, which does not require great lengths of time to collect. It does not produce smoke while burning, thus making it safe for use inside the home. It provides better lighting and saves energy and time.
