A loan of $500 helped to purchase a secondhand motorcycle for his business.

James's story

James is a married man with two children. He is a motorcycle rider (boda boda). He takes his customers from one point to another. His wife is a hairdresser, and together they support their family. Both of the children are schooling.

James is very hardworking, waking up early to provide transport services to his clients. His only challenge is that he would like to own his own motorcycle, but does not have enough capital. The current motorcycle belongs to his employer. His dream is to also provide employment to many qualified riders who are not in a position to have their own motorcycles.

With a Kiva loan of KES 50,000, James will buy the motorcycle, and this will improve his income. He will use the added profit to provide for his family and repay his loan installments.

This loan is special because:

It gives financial access to low income micro-entrepreneurs.
