A loan helped to purchase bundles of water, cornflakes, sweets, macaroni, couscous, luncheon meat and ketchup.

Salamatu's story

Greetings from Sierra Leone.

This is Salamatu, a 37-year-old woman. She is married with four children between the ages of 4 and 14 years old. She has been in this business for the past 20 years now. She started her business to educate her children.

Salamatu runs a retail shop business. She sells bundles of water, cornflakes, sweets, macaroni, couscous, luncheon meat, ketchup and other assorted items. She works at the business seven hours per day, six days per week. Salamatu says her business is doing well and customers are coming. Seemingly distinct businesses are often mixed in Sierra Leone, the idea being that a customer will come to purchase one thing but will leave having purchased another.

Salamatu has requested a loan in order to purchase bundles of water, cornflakes, sweets, macaroni, couscous, luncheon meat, ketchup and other assorted items. The extra income from this loan will allow her to take care of her children and repay her loan. In the future, she plans to expand into a big shop. She thanks you for your support.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with access to funding in areas where there are limited alternative source of finance.
