Loko Group's story

Here are Abie N., Fatmata M., Isatu K. and Marie C.. They call their group Loko Group, named after their tribe. This will be the first loan this group is accessing from SMT/Kiva. They are requesting a loan of Le 500,000 for each. With this loan, they will be able to expand their businesses by adding more goods to their businesses. This will enable them to make better profit so that they can better meet their children’s academic, nutritional and medical needs.

Abie N. (left) is the leader of this group. Abie was born in Gbemdembu village about fifteen miles from Makeni city. She is married to a road constructor and they have three children. Abie and her husband have to work hard to pay school fees and other school-related charges for their three children who are still attending school. Abie has been selling fire-wood and palm-oil (the most popular cooking oil) for the past seventeen years now.
