A loan helped a member to purchase duck feed and new ducklings.

Hmaw Eing – 2 (A) Village Group's story

There are five members in Hmaw Eing – 2 (A) Village Group: Hla, Tin, Win, Maw and Khin. They reside in Myanmar’s Delta area where heavy rain is more common than in other regions. All of the group members are smallholder farmers, who usually earn their income from cultivating rice on their paddy fields.

Win, a woman in the middle of the picture wearing a yellow blouse, is the featured borrower of the group. She is 42 years old and she loves to trade. She is blessed with five children; three of them are students. Like other villagers who do not own land, Win works as a day laborer. But this job is irregular and does not ensure regular income for her. In the past, Win faced daily food security problems when no one hired her as a day laborer.

However, two years ago, she started duck farming business to overcome this challenge. She raises 160 ducks, sells the eggs and earns regular income for her family. This loan will help her to purchase duck feed and new ducklings. Adding new ducks will surely boost her income and Win is very thankful to Kiva community for this generous loan.

In this group: Win, Hla, Khin, Maw, Tin
