A loan helped caroline to buy farm inputs such as seeds to enable her to grow more vegetables.

Caroline's story

Caroline is a humble woman who lives in Litein, a post-conflict area where there is a high rate of poverty and unemployment. Despite these challenges, she is working hard to lift herself out of that dismal condition. She is a very hardworking person.

Thanks to her daily efforts, Caroline has managed to give her children a good start by providing them with a good quality education. Her primary sources of income are crops and animal farming. She also earns some income from a personal business. Caroline never had a formal education and is content with the farming lifestyle.

The Litein area is a favorable area for farming, so Caroline is seeking a loan to buy seeds. These will enable her to grow more vegetables, reap maximum profits, and increase her business. Being a woman and accessing funds in Kenya, especially the Litein area, is very challenging. But Caroline feels relieved, knowing there are institutions such as Kiva that help enterprising women like her.

Caroline's goals are to improve her living conditions and to secure the future of her children. Her biggest dreams are to be able to support her family by herself, to become independent, and to buy a home.
