The Ownership Is God Group
In this Group: Lawrence, Lydia, Theresa, Diana, Veronica
Lawrence is 40 years old. He is married and the father of three children, two boys and one girl, who are in school. He is a salt trader. He supplies salt to food vendors and others. He travels to Accra to buy his salt, but he buys only a few bags of salt on each trip, because he does not have enough money to buy more. He must travel to Accra frequently to get enough salt to sell. He asked some family members for financial assistance, but to no avail. Lawrence is requesting a loan to buy a bulk supply of salt. He believes this will reduce the risk of frequent travel. He dreams of saving more to pay for his children's education.

Lawrence is the leader of a trust bank group called "The Ownership is God." He appears in the middle in the group photograph. Most of the members of this group are small-scale traders, food vendors, and farmers. In this group, members guarantee for one another as social collateral to access the loan and provide peer pressure to repay the loan.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
