Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $500 helped a member to buy peanut seeds, small materials, and fertilizers for the fields.

Benkadi 7 De Toura Nabitokan Group's story

The BENKADI 7 group is made of six married women of the Toura Nabitokan village, in the city of SAN (Ségou Region, fourth administrative region of the Republic of Mali), who live in traditional families. They average 23 years of age and 3 children. They grow peanuts.

Eager to make their agricultural businesses profitable, the members of the BENKADI 7 group decided to join the loan program of Kiva's partner, Soro Yiriwaso, two years ago. After having repaid the previous loan without problems, they are now seeking their second farming loan.

This loan will be used to buy, exclusively at the grand market in Kimparana, a sufficient quantity of peanut seeds, small materials, and fertilizers for the fields. After the rainy season, the crops are stored for a while to gain market value, before being sold at the grand market in Kimparara and in the surrounding markets, retail (often wholesale) and for cash, to a clientele usually coming from the larger cities.

After selling their products, the members of the BENKADI 7 group count on turning a profit of XOF 25000 to 20000 (ca US$ 55 to 45) each, to be used to repay the loan and to pay for the daily expenses of their families.
