Obotantim Group's story

Comfort F., 36 years old, is the divorced mother of a daughter, who is currently in school. Comfort is a committed, creative, and hardworking single mother who is prepared to work hard to provide for her child. She is a trader and trades in grocery products like skimmed milk, rice, bags of sugar, and cartons of vegetable oil, as well as offering boxes of body lotions, hair creams, and so on. She started her business seven years ago. She is the one sitting in the middle in the group photograph.

She is the leader of a trust bank group called ‘Obotantim,’ which translates as 'Solid Rock.' Most of the members of this group are petty traders, food vendors, and/or farmers. They are requesting a loan to upgrade their businesses in order to increase sales. In this group, members guarantee for one another as social collateral to access the loan and support each other in repaying the loan.
