A loan of $175 helped to buy reeds and chillihua (to make mats).

Juana Maria's story

Juana belongs to the community bank "Las Totoritas" (The little reeds), which is located in the community of Chimu, Puno district, Puno province, Puno department, in Peru. She is 49 years old, and the single mother of one son. She did not complete primary school education (4th graD.), and lives in the community of Central Chimu.

She has worked with the Manuela Ramos movement (a Peruvian feminist organization) for about 2 years. Her first loan was for 300 PEN, which she used to make handicrafts.

Now she needs a loan of 500 PEN, to buy reeds and chillihua wood in order to make "quesanas" (a type of mat) and reed handicrafts, to sell at regional fairs.

Her wish is to continue working and educate her little son. She appreciates the savings accounts and ease of loans with Manuela Ramos.
