A loan helped to buy farm implements.

Josephine's story

Dear Kiva lenders!

The above picture presents Josephine, a mother of seven, who has been practicing agriculture for the last six years. Because of the immense knowledge she has about farming, she commands a lot of respect among other farmers and is viewed as a mentor in her village.

Josephine lives with her children in the Kenyenya area of Kenya, which is known for maize farming. Her primary income sources are sheep, eggs, milk, and some personal business she engages in to supplement her meager income. She also keeps a dairy cow.

Generating an income through selling her harvest is the part of farming she enjoys most, while availability of labour is a major challenge for her.

Before joining Juhudi Kilimo, Josephine could not access loans from banks because she is a woman and also a smallholder farmer. She joined Juhudi Kilimo and learnt about loan management and agribusiness. She also got to learn about Kiva.

Josephine is seeking a loan to purchase farm implements. With these items, her farming activities will become much easier. This will boost her income and enable her to pay school fees for her children.

Josephine waits for your kindness.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals and farming equipment.
