A loan of $850 helped buying firewood, chickens, frying cakes and plantain chips.

Ndefru's story

G. is married with four children. She lives in Ntamulung quarter in Bamenda, Cameroon. G. and her entire family are living in a house with 5 rooms with three people sharing a room. Being a very hard-working woman, G. had to overcome some challenges in life. Thieves broke into her business site some time in 2008 and also broke into her house. They took a lot of things which almost let to her downfall. Being a hard-working woman she was able to overcome this problem.

With this loan, G. plans to buy firewood ( a fuel used locally in cooking). She will also buy flour, yeast, and vegetable oil for frying cakes. Some of the vegetable oil will be used in frying plantain chip (sliced plantain fried in vegetable oil). She will also buy chickens to grow for sale and feed for the chickens. Part of the money will also be used for transportation of the items from the market to her business site.

This will be G.'s fourth loan from GHAPE; she has been a member since 2005. She has been quite successful in the past with her business due to her location (right on the main road), the quality of her products, and her reasonable prices. Also with experience, she now has more customers who consume her products.

Part of her profits from this loan will be used to buy a plot of land for building a house. She will also use some to pay her children's school fees, and provide food and medication for the family. G. does not foresee a problem with her loan repayments as they are quite small repayments every month. She intends to start repayment in the fourth month after taking the loan.
