A loan helped to purchase seeds, pesticides and fertilizers to sell at his shop.

Jorge's story

Jorge is a 52-year-old man that lives in Manica, Mozambique. He lives in a brick house that has access to clean water and is close to a hospital. He lives with 7 other family members of which 6 are his children with the ages between 34 and 15 years old.

Jorge decided to work with agriculture and business to dedicate himself to helping his community. His biggest challenge is the unavailability of high quality seeds. Even though it is hard, he is proud of what he does because he has evidence that his community is advancing through the work done.

Besides harvesting crops, Jorge has a store that sells agro-inputs, a grinding mill machine that uses petrol and he also raises chickens, goats and turkeys. He also owns 3 acres of land. To help him with the running of the business, Jorge hires 2 permanent employees.

With the loan, Jorge plans to buy agro-inputs to be a re-seller in his community for many farmers do not have access to high quality seeds.

Jorge will provide a down payment upon receipt of the loan. The loan will also be partially matched by an in-kind credit of agricultural input supplies and equipment by a local private company, Luteari. The partnership between small entrepreneurs like Jorge and private businesses represents an important link in the community and will not only have a positive impact for him, but also for local farmers who will gain access to his supplies and services.

This loan is special because:

It allows farmers access to new markets and agricultural resources.
