A loan of $650 helped a member to buy seeds, fertilizers, small materials, and to pay for the cost of labour and hoeing of 10 hectares.

Benkadi 3 Group's story

The ten members of the Benkadi 3 group are all married women who average 34 years of age and 3 children. Most of them live in polygamous families in Massoukou, one of the villages of the rural city of Tingolé, subprefecture of Fana, 2nd administrative region of Mali.

They are seeking their first loan from Kiva's partner, the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso, in order to be able to realize their farming activities. They exclusively grow peanuts, which is still the main crop in the area. This loan will be used to buy seeds, fertilizers, small materials, and to pay for the cost of labour and hoeing of 10 hectares. After the harvest, the production will be sold for cash at the following markets : Marka-Coungo, Fana et Tingolé, to a clientele comprising both men and women.

They intend to turn an average profit of XOF 20'000 (ca US$ 45) per campaign. The women of the Benkadi 3 group ambition to obtain loans corresponding to the desired amount.
