A loan of $525 helped cloth and sewing materials.

Mercy's story

Mercy T., age 45, of San Mateo, Rizal, Philippines, is the mother of two grade-school-aged girls and the wife of a businessman.

Mercy runs an apparel-sewing business that caters mostly to schools and offices in Metro Manila. For seven years, her shop has produced custom-made clothes, school and office uniforms, tote bags, and caps. She plans to use her loan to purchase additional cloth and other sewing materials.

During lean months (January to March and July to August), Mercy accepts sub-contract sewing jobs from bigger companies to be able to pay for the salary of her six seamstresses and to pay for other expenses. The business now earns an average net income of 25,000 PHP per month.

In the near future, Mercy plans to create her own line of t-shirts, bags, and caps with Christian themes, and to acquire a store space in a mall where she prefers to market her products.
