Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

Basilio Mateo's story

Mr. Basilio is from the Vásquez village in the Totonicapan municipality. His main activity is a leather goods shop making footwear for men and women, which he learned from his father when he was 10 years old. Since he has many siblings, Basilio did not have the opportunity to continue his studies and for this reason he only finished primary school. As time passed he decided to return to his studies on weekends and this year he will finish his high school degree, for which he requests a loan to fulfill his seminar and graduate.
