Las Perlas Group's story

Irene H. is a 24 year old, married, woman who has two children. She lives in an area called El Recreo that is two hours from Puerto de Veracruz. The people in her town primarily make a living by growing: rice, cucumber, watermelon, melon, and tomatoes. Doña Irene mostly sells woman’s clothing for a living, but she also sells plastic silverware. She makes most of her sales in her neighborhood to her friends and family. She buys her merchandise in another town and is asking for a loan to buy and transport her merchandise. Her goal is to eventually build a store in front of her house. In this way she could help her husband and provide her children with a better future. Doña Irene is the representative of the group called “Las Perlas” that is made up of four women. They sells soft drinks, shoes (by catalog), and cut hair. This is why they are asking for a loan of 1,500 to be able to invest in their businesses.
