Irenita E. is from the village of Santo Filomena in Iligan City. Irenita is a 44-year-old, married woman with seven school-age children. To make a living, Irenita owns and operates a business venture in the retail sector; specifically, she sells home products. Irenita has been engaged in her business for over 10 years and earns approximately 5,000 PHP per month from these activities (primarily from selling personal home products on a consignment basis to local community members).

In 2009, Irenita joined HSPFI in order to gain much-needed access to financial services and, in turn, to help improve her living situation and ability to engage in business activities. This loan is the first loan she is seeking via HSPFI. Indeed, Irenita is requesting a loan in the amount of 5,000 PHP ($125), which will be used to expand her business. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business as a result of the loan to supplement her family's income.
