Mary's story

Mary F. is fifty-three years old. She is married and has four children, two daughters and two sons. Some are currently in senior high while others are in junior high and primary schools. She lives with her husband and children in a rented apartment in a commercial town called Dwenase in the Western Region. Dwenase is a suburb of Sefwi-Wiawso, the district capital.

Her husband is retired. She is a food vendor. She cooks and sells ‘banku’, a local dish from corn dough. It is served hot with soup. She sells at the market square in the mornings. Mary wants a loan to buy bags of maize and other ingredients in bulk. She buys her goods from nearby communities at affordable prices. She has been in business for over ten years. She aspires to expand her business and sponsor her children in school.
