A loan of $500 helped buy sugar, rice, milk, pasta, oil, cookies and flour.

Elena's story

Elena belongs to the Señor de Los Milagros ("Our Father of Miracles") Village Bank, which is located in the Imicati Community of Yunguyo Distruct, Chucuito Province, Puno Department. She is 41 years old and married with three children, all of whom are in college. Elena finished primary school, and lives in the center of Imicati.

She has been working with the Manuela Ramos movement for almost eight years, and used her very first loan of 300 soles to increase working capital for her business buying and selling livestock.

She is now requesting a loan of 1500 soles to invest in her current business by buying basic grocery items like sugar, rice, milk, pasta, oil, cookies, flour, etc. She will then sell these items in her store.

Elena's greatest dream is to sell warm clothing in bulk.

Her favorite parts of participating in a village bank are her savings account and the ease with which she can take out loans.
